Sunday, March 3, 2019, was a day to remember as prominent female politician, Senator Florence Ita Giwa, celebrated her 73rd birthday in grand style.
The influential Calabar born politician didn’t end the party with her birthday celebration. She also launched her much anticipated restaurant “Echoes of Calabar Kitchen”, situated at Akin-Olugbade Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The close ally of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, who is known not to do things in half measures, was glamorous in her red shimering jumpsuit and was seen beaming with smiles to welcome her invited guests to the newly opened restaurant.
As was expected, many of her notable friends were treated to a sumptuous meal and varieties of wine, champagne, cognac and other exotic drinks.
Some of the celebrities that honoured Ita Giwa were Princess Abbah Folwaiyo, Ndidi Obioha, Helen Paul, Ayo Makun and his wife, and Uti Nwachukwu,
Others were Sola Sobowale, Willy and Nkiru Anumudu, Ngozi Nwosu, Ini Edo Ali Baba, among others
Mama Bakassi, as she is fondly called, was born on February 19, 1946, in Atabong Bakassi Local Council Area of Cross River State.
Ita Giwa, a nurse by profession, later joined politics and ran as a legislator on the platform of All People’s Party (APP), before joining People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
She was married to the late famous journalist, Dele Giwa, the founding editor of Newswatch Magazine.
They were married for only ten months, after which Dele Giwa married Olufunmi Olaniyan as second wife until his death in 1986.
