Elsewhere, Atletico Madrid finished atop Group A after a scoreless draw with second-place Juventus, and Olympiakos fought off Malmo to finish their group-stage campaign with a 4-2 victory.
In Group C, Monaco completed their schedule with a 2-0 triumph over Zenit St. Petersburg and will go into the round of 16 after pipping Bayer Leverkusen, who drew 0-0 at Benfica, to win the bracket.
Finally, Borussia Dortmund’s 1-1 draw with Anderlecht ensured their progress as Group D winners, while Arsenal, who beat Galatasaray 4-1 in Istanbul, advanced as runners-up.
Overall, there were plenty of standout performances on Tuesday as well as one or two that were rather less impressive.
