Thibaut Courtois: Falcao a ‘great signing for Chelsea’

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has given his backing to the club’s pursuit of Radamel Falcao.

Falcao, 29, is reportedly close to joining Chelsea on a loan deal from Monacoafter a similar transfer to Manchester United proved unsuccessful last season.

The Colombia international only scored four goals for United after struggling with his fitness and failing to impress Louis van Gaal, but Jose Mourinho is ready to take a chance on the striker.

Earlier this week the Chelsea manager revealed: “If I can help Falcao reach his level again, I will do it. It hurts me that people in England think that the real Falcao is the one we saw at Manchester United.

“He is a great player. I don’t do the negotiations. I just tell my board, my club, the players that I am interested in, the price, what I like. And we will see what happens.”

Falcao’s pedigree is not in question having scored 142 goals across four seasons for Porto and Atletico Madrid – the latter spell seeing him play alongside both Diego Costa and Courtois.

Chelsea’s number one says the striker would be a great acquisition as the club defend their title next season.
