Breaking: Rooney Breaks Bobby Charlton Record

Happenings

Manchester took on Stoke city at the Britannia in a game that was a particularly terse affair.

Mourinho opted to play Fellaini in midfield with the likes of Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick settling for a place on the bench.

The 28th minute saw Juan Mata who started at the right for United concede an own goal from a Pieters shot.

The game turned on its head from that point on with Stoke City defending deep while United mounted pressure.

The closest United came in the first half was in the dying moments, when Mata blazed the ball well over the bar from a Zlatan Ibrahimovic through pass.

In the second half, record breaker Wayne Rooney was introduced for the abysmal Juan Mata yet, United found it a very tough going.

Till the 93rd minute when a sumptuous Wayne Rooney free kick found the top of the net to stun the Britannia.

The goal meant Rooney had scored his 250th Premier League goal for the club, surpassing Sir Bobby Charlton’s record.

The result sees United unmoved from 6th place, and desperately in need of points to break into the Champions League places.

Congratulations Wayne!
