Japan's Naomi Osaka has ended a run of eight different grand slam winners with a three-set victory against Petra Kvitova in the finals of the Australian Open.
The 21-year-old followed up her triumph in the US Open last September against Serena Williams with another success in the first grand slam of the year to become the first Japanese to be ranked No.1 in the ATP rankings.
Osaka recovered from a dramatic second set loss to win 7-6(7-2) 5-7 6-4 victory in the Australian Open final over Kvitova.
