Indian Actress Apologises For Racist Comment On Iwobi After Fans Blast Her
Indian actress, Esha Gupta, has apologized for the racist remarks made about Nigeria International and Arsenal winger, Alex Iwobi, after their FA Cup defeat to Manchester United last Friday.
Gupta, who is an Arsenal ambassador, shared a screenshot of her conversation with a friend who called Nigerian footballer, Alexander Iwobi, a ‘gorilla’ and a ‘Neanderthal’.
In the screenshot, Esha reacted to their comments with a laugh before saying she doesn't know why the Nigerian isn't benched more.
Following a backlash from Gunners and football fans in general, the controversial actress has tendered an apology on her Twitter page.
Guys, m sorry you thought it was racist. Was bad on my part, being a sports lover. Wallah never meant it. Sorry guys forgive the stupidity 🙏🏽 #gooner4life
It was us discussing our frustration during the game. Sorry as I din realise it directed towards racism. Laughed over the spur of the moment, which was the games result guys. Been victim of racism myself before. But this is not something m proud of. It was a fault, sorry guys
However, this has not stopped people from bashing her, with many suggesting Arsenal should strip her of her ambassadorial role.
