Maurizio Sarri Tells Hazard He Can Leave Chelsea If He Wants

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has told star forward Eden Hazard he can leave for Real Madrid by the end of the season if he wants.

Hazard has been linked with a move to the Spanish capital since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus with the Belgian seen as the perfect replacement for the Portuguese superstar.

The World Cup silver ball winner has also professed his love for the European champions severally, including in an interview in October where he disclosed that it is his dream to represent the club one day.

Although he has pledged to remain with the Blues till the end of this season, he has refused to renew his contract which expires in 2020.

Chelsea is doing its best to get him to renew, but the London based side might have to let him leave in the summer to avoid losing him on a free when his contract runs out.

Sarri was asked about the situation the club and the player are in. The Italian admonished the player to put in a transfer request if it is what he wants.

"Eden is 28. If he wants to go, I think he has to go," Sarri said ahead of Chelsea's Premier League clash with Bournemouth on Wednesday evening.

"Of course, I hope the opposite. I hope he wants to stay here with us and improve. He has the potential to be the best player in Europe at the moment. Sometimes he's happy with something less.

"It's my job to improve him and put him in a position to do his best. Sometimes I have to say something in the pressroom on that. It's normal. It's my job.

"But I was really very happy with the last performance."

Hazard has played a key role for Chelsea this season, contributing 13 goals and 10 assists in 28 matches across all competitions for the club.

The 28-year-old and his teammates will hope to get victory against the Cherries as the battle for fourth place continues.
