When Emiliano Sala signed for Cardiff City on 19 January, 2019 for a club record fee of £15 million, it must have been one of the proudest moments of his life. The day all of his hard work and professional career was to start receiving global recognition.

Well, the Argentine has been the biggest news in the sporting world this year, not for smashing Cardiff's club record or scoring incredible goals as he promised but for the tragic incident that happened to him just two days after he made his big move.

The 28-year-old had gone back to his former club Nantes in France to say his goodbyes to former teammates and pick up his belongings as he prepared for life in Britain.

The former Bordeaux forward had tweeted about the 'new Sala' in town and his impatience to explore the Premier League.

But that dream has been cut short by a plane accident involving the player and part-time pilot, David Ibbotson in the English channel.

The wreckage of the Piper Malibu N264DB plane was discovered on Sunday, 3 Feb. 2019 by private search contractors and a body which has now been confirmed as that of the striker was extracted on Wednesday, Feb.6, 2019.

A police statement on Thursday confirming the tragic news read: "The body brought to Portland Port today, Thursday 7 February 2019, has been formally identified by HM Coroner for Dorset as that of professional footballer Emiliano Sala.

"The families of Mr Sala and the pilot David Ibbotson have been updated with this news and will continue to be supported by specially-trained family liaison officers. Our thoughts remain with them at this difficult time.

"HM Coroner will continue to investigate the circumstances of this death supported by Dorset Police."

No doubt, this is tragic news and must be hard for those close to the victims to handle, especially family members who had hoped for a miracle.

As the football star was loved, so also did he have people and activities that were dear to his heart

All of these people and the sporting world will miss the young man who was primed for greatness.
