When it comes to headline-grabbing goal celebrations very few footballers can match the skills of Mario Balotelli.

The Marseille striker reminded us of his weirdness yesterday when he took his smartphone from a photographer and captured his goal celebration on his Instagram story.

The moment which for many eclipses Totti's selfie celebration against Lazio in January 2015 as the best modern day celebration, is one of many headlining celebrations by the Italian.

It was Roma legend Francesco Totti who first celebrated a goal with a smartphone when he equalized in Roma’s 2-2 draw against city rivals, Lazio. The Roma all-time top scorer retrieved his phone from goalkeeping coach Guido Nanni and took a selfie in front of the club’s ultras in the Stadio Olimpico’s Curva Sud.

Mario doesn't always celebrate his goals and was asked why in the past, he said: “When I score, I don't celebrate because I'm only doing my job. When a postman delivers letters, does he celebrate?". As weird as his response was, it is actually understandable.

Away from his most recent theatrics, the 28-year-old has had some famed moments in the past after scoring.

In October 2011, the striker pulled his shirt up to display the 'why always me' question on his underwear after scoring for Manchester City in their 6-1 demolition of rivals, Manchester United. It was in response to criticism from the English media about his personality.

The forward also drew some criticism from former Italy manager Cesare Prandelli, after he took off his shirt for his 'hawk celebration' following his winner against Mexico in 2013.
