AS Roma Sack Eusebio Di Francesco As Manager

AS Roma have sacked manager, Eusebio Di Francesco, from his position as head coach of the club with immediate effect after a recent run of poor results.

The Giallorossi were knocked out of the Champions League on Wednesday after their 3-1 extra-time defeat against FC Porto.

It was Roma's second big loss in less than a week after they were thrashed 3-0 by local rivals Lazio in the league on Saturday.

A crisis meeting was reportedly held today at the club's training ground between directors Monchi, Mauro Baldissoni, Guido Fienga, and the outcome was announced at 5 pm GMT.

Club president, Jim Pallotta, said on the club's website after the sack: “On behalf of myself and everyone at AS Roma, I’d like to thank Eusebio for his work and his commitment.

"Since returning to the club, Eusebio has always acted professionally and put the club’s needs ahead of his own. We all wish him well for the future."

Di Francesco joined La Lupa in the summer of 2017 and will be best remembered by fans for plotting Roma's historic 3-0 comeback against Barcelona to reach the semi-finals of the 2017/2018 Champions League season.

Former Leicester coach, who was recently fired by Fulham, Claudio Ranieri, has been tipped as the frontrunner to replace him as caretaker until the end of the season.

If appointed, it would be Ranieri's second stint at the club he managed between Semptember 2019 and February 2011.
