Cristiano Ronaldo is facing a ban after being charged by UEFA for improper conduct following his celebrations against Atletico Madrid in Juventus' round 16 win.

UEFA has opened a disciplinary investigation against the forward who was said to have acted out of line.

The 34-year-old scored a hat-trick in Turin, as Juventus turned a 2-0 first leg deficit against the Rojiblancos to progress to the quarter finals.

Following his heroics in the game, Ronaldo celebrated by copying Diego Simeone's celebration from the first leg for which the Argentine got a £17,000 fine.

A statement confirming the charge against Ronaldo read:

“Following a disciplinary investigation conducted by a UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector, in accordance with the Article 55 of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations (DR), disciplinary proceedings have been opened following the UEFA Champions League round of 16 match between Juventus Football Club and Club Atlético de Madrid, played on 12 March in Italy.
“The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body will deal with this case at its next meeting on 21 March 2019.”

Juventus will travel to Amsterdam on April 10 for the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Ajax.
