Lionel Messi picked up an injury whilst playing for Argentina in an international friendly against Venezuela in Madrid, according to FC Barcelona.

Messi's Argentina lost 3-1 on his return to the international setup since their ill-fated 2018 world cup participation.

Although the Barcelona and Argentina captain played the full extent of the game, he is reported to have finished the game with an injury.

The injury would see the Argentine all time top scorer miss their next friendly match which takes place on Tuesday against Morocco as he returns to Barcelona.

"Lionel Messi did not have the return to international action that he would have wanted, and an injury picked up on Friday night means he will miss Argentina's game against Morocco on Tuesday. Whilst he would feature from start to finish, a problem with his pubis means that Messi will not play in the second friendly of the international break," a statement on the club's website read.

Messi's injury seems to have caused panic amongst Barca fans as they fear he could miss Barcelona's crunch Champions League match against Manchester United.

Sky Sport, however, reports that the injury isn't as serious as first feared and that his withdrawal from the Morocco game was precautionary.
