Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi, says that he misses facing arch-rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, following the Portuguese star's departure to Italy.

Ronaldo joined Juventus last summer after nine years at Real Madrid where he won four champions titles in the last five years with the club.

Messi has now admitted that the former Manchester United forward gave "prestige" to La Liga.

The 34-year-old scored a hat-trick against Atlectico Madrid as Juventus won their round sixteen tie 3-2 on aggregate.

They will now face Ajax Amsterdam in the quarter finals of the competition, with the only chance of Ronaldo and Messi meeting in the competition now in the final.

Barcelona have been largely unchallenged in La Liga this season, holding a ten point lead on second place Atletico Madrid and twelve ahead of Real Madrid.

"I miss Cristiano," Messi told Argentine FM Club 947. "Although it was a bit difficult to see him win trophies, he gave La Liga prestige.

"Juventus are a great candidate to win the Champions League since the arrival of Cristiano, and the match against Atleti must have given them a lot of confidence."

Ronaldo and Messi are regarded as two of the best to ever play football but the Blaugrana captain believes there are other good players out there.

"I don't want to forget anyone, but I think that Neymar, [Kylian] Mbappe, [Eden] Hazard, Luis Suarez and [Sergio] Aguero are the best.

"I didn't mention Cristiano because I put him aside from the list with me."

Barcelona are in action on Saturday when they welcome Espanyol to the Camp Nou following the international break while Ronaldo's Juventus host Empoli.
