Super Eagles stand-in captain, Ahmed Musa, has been crowned the best Nigerian footballer of the Year at the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) football awards which held on Monday night at the Eko Hotels & Suites.

The 26-year-old was one of the shining lights of Nigeria at the FIFA World Cup in Russia in June 2018 where he scored two beautiful goals against Iceland as the Super Eagles were eliminated in the first round.

The second of those two goals was also awarded as the goal of the year at the award ceremony.

The former Kano Pillars man nicked the price ahead of Arsenal's Alex Iwobi and Shanghai Greenland Shenhua’s striker, Odion Ighalo.

Ahmed Musa joined Saudi club, Al Nassr, last summer from Leicester where he has scored five times and assisted another five in nineteen games.

He also played a key role in Nigeria's qualification for the Nations Cup that would hold later this year, scoring away from home against Seychelles and Libya.

In other categories, Onome Ebi won the female player of the year award while Samuel Chukwueze and Anam Imo were crowned young male footballer and female footballer of the year respectively.

Super Eagles gaffer, Gernot Rohr, missed out on the Coach of the Year Award to Rangers' Gbenga Ogunbote while Thomas Dennerby was voted the Women's Coach of the Year.

The Super Falcons were named the team of the year while Kano Pillars fans were recognized as the best last season.
