Diego Costa could face a ban of up to eight games following his rant at referee, Jesus Gil Manzano, during Atletico Madrid's 2-0 defeat against Barcelona on Saturday.

The striker reportedly insulted the referee during a burst up in the first half of the La Liga top of the table clash which led to him getting sent off.

Costa, believing he was fouled, expressed his displeasure aggressively at the referee for not making the call and was eventually sent off for dissent on 28 minutes.

The Spaniard initially refused to leave the pitch but was eventually escorted by his international team-mate, Gerrard Pique.

Now the comments he made during the argument has been revealed by Reuters journalist, Richard Martin.

"In the 28th minute the player Diego Da Silva Costa was sent off for the following motive: he shouted loudly at me the following words: 'I SH*T ON YOUR WH*RE MOTHER, I SH*T ON YOUR WH*RE MOTHER,'" Costa is alleged to have said.

Costa's manager was angry with the sending off but was more concerned with his team’s lack of discipline at the Camp Nou.

"In the last 11 games here [at Camp Nou] we have received seven red cards. We must be doing something wrong," said Simeone.

"I asked the referee and he told me something that Costa says he didn't say. If he said it [what the referee claims], he is deservedly sent off.

The incident would surely be investigated by the League management body, and if found guilty, Costa could get up to eight games ban which would rule him out for the rest of the season.
