Former Liverpool defender, Jamie Carragher, has risked angering Chelsea fans with his latest comments about Eden Hazard on Sky Sports Monday Night Football

The ex-England man seems to suggest that Hazard might need to play for either Barcelona or Real Madrid to reach the pinnacle of his career, as he is presently bigger than Chelsea.

Hazard has been strongly linked with a move to the Spanish capital, having refused to renew his contract with the Blues.

Chelsea are, however, holding out for £100m despite Hazard having just over a year left on his contract with the London club.

The Belgian delivered a masterclass of a performance yesterday to help Chelsea back into the top four positions in the Premier League, with Carragher suggesting that such showings are the reason he believes Hazard should make the move to Spain.

The Liverpool legend was Luis Suarez' teammate when the striker was being linked to Barcelona, and he admitted to advising the Uruguayan to join the Spanish giants over Premier League rivals, Arsenal.

"I don't think you can ever stop players moving to Real Madrid and Barcelona. I think most players see that as the pinnacle, and it's happened at both Manchester United and Liverpool," Carragher said.

"It's sad as I love watching him week in, week out. But I almost feel like Hazard has to play for Real Madrid or Barcelona.

"He's that good that he has to play at that level. I think Hazard is too good for Chelsea, right now. He's that good a player.

"I think of Luis Suarez when he was at Liverpool. I wanted him to stay, but I knew in my head. This was something I spoke about with Steven Gerrard when he nearly went to Arsenal.

"We actually said, 'You're too good for Arsenal. If you're going to leave, you have to go to Barcelona'. I think Hazard is one of the best players in the world, and the best players in the world play for your Madrid and your Barcelona.

"He's won leagues with them [Chelsea], but I think for him as an individual player, he needs to have a Madrid on his CV over the next three or four years to finish that career."

Hazard has been Chelsea's most prolific player this season, scoring 16 goals and providing 12 for his teammates. The 28-year-old is now the deadliest Premier League attacker with most goals and assists this season.
