Nigerian-born UFC Welterweight Champion, Kamaru Usman, has congratulated compatriot, Israel Adesanya, after the 29-year-old became the UFC Middleweight interim champion.

'The stylebender' won the title after he defeated Kelvin Gastelum in an epic five round fight in Atlanta that left both men bloodied and battered.

Israel became the second African to be crowned a UFC champion, following in the footsteps of Kamaru Usman who won the Welterweight title last month when he defeated the legendary Tyron Woodley via a unanimous decision of 50-44, 50-44, and 50-45 on the judges’ scorecard.

Kamaru was ringside to give his full support to his Nigerian brother who needed a top class showing in the final round to clinch victory.

Usman was recorded on the ringside celebrating Israel's victory, screaming "That's two, we got two now!" as he pointed to the Nigerian flag on his UFC belt to remind all who cared to listen that the country now has two world champions.

The Nigerian welter weight champion followed it up with a post on his Twitter timeline: "Naija Stand Up!!! Back to back months, back to back Champs 👊🏾👊🏾🇳🇬🇳🇬 @stylebender @ufc #UFC236."
