Nigeria’s national U-17 team have secured their place at the 19th edition of the FIFA U-17 World Cup which will be hosted in Brazil later this year after their 1-1 draw against Uganda at the AFCON U-17 championship.

The Golden Eaglets needed a point to confirm their status as the top team in Group A and that was the result they got, coming from behind to secure the draw against the Ugandans.

John Kokas Alou gave the Young Cranes the lead on 69 minutes after the Nigerian boys failed to deal with a dangerous corner kick.

But Ibraheem Jabaar equalized for Nigeria five minutes later with a beautiful goal that seemed to spur the Eaglets on after briefly starring elimination in the face.

As a result of the draw, Nigeria finished with 7 points from three games, having won their first two games 5-4 and 1-0 against hosts, Tanzania and Angola, respectively.

Angola progressed to the knock-out stage of the competition after beating Tanzania 4-2, joining Cameroon and Nigeria as Africa's third representatives in the World tournament.

Nigeria will play the second placed team from Group B in the semi-finals as they seek to win the tournament for the third time.
