Emiliano Sala's father has died, three months after the death of his footballer son in a plane crash in the English Channel.
Horacio Sala, 58, died after suffering a heart attack in the early hours of Friday morning at his home in Progreso in Argentina’s Santa Fe province.
Progreso mayor, Julio Muller, in a statement issued to local radio station La Red, said: "2019 doesn't let up in shocking us with news in this town.
"At five o'clock in the morning, the lady, his wife, rang me and she was very upset. The doctors were there but when I arrived at their home, he had already died.”
"He could never get over Emi's death," Muller said, citing “a heart problem” as the cause of the father’s death.
Horacio's 28-year-old son, Emiliano, tragically lost his life along with pilot, David Ibbotson, in a plane crash along the English channel in January, while traveling from Nantes to Cardiff.
The Argentine footballer's body was recovered on 6 February after a private search, but 59-year-old Ibbotson’s body was never found.
