Bayern Munich left-back and Austrian international, David Alaba, has denied reports that his refusal to bribe coaches was the reason he wasn't picked by the Nigerian U-17 team.

Earlier this week, ‘All Nigerian Soccer’ reported that Alaba had revealed in an exclusive interview that he was only denied a place in the Nigerian U-17 team because he refused to pay his way into the team.

But the 26-year-old who's born to a Nigerian father and Filipino mother has rubbished those reports as fake in an interview with German-based Nigerian reporter, Oma Akatugba.

“No! They didn’t demand money from me. It’s fake news,” Alaba who is on the cusp of winning an 8th league title with Bayern answered when the question was put to him by the reporter.

Alaba was one of the players considered for Nigeria's U-17 national team ahead of the 2007 World Cup but didn't make the cut, as Nigeria eventually went on to win the tournament.

He eventually went on to play for his country of birth, Austria, making his debut in 2009 at the tender age of 17. He has amassed 64 games, scoring 13 times for the European country and has become one of the best players in his position over the years.
