The management of Nigeria National League, Ibadan-based football team, Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), have disowned a suspect arrested by the EFCC who claimed to be a member of the club's feeder team.

EFCC, in a press release on its website on Tuesday, said it had arrested one Oginni Oluwaseyi Dayo who claimed to be a cadet footballer with 3SC's reserves.

Oginni was arrested along with his brother-in-law, Alabi Okikiola, and his friend, Jonas Okwuwe, at a location within the Fortune Estate, Ologuneru Olonde area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The suspects were arrested after a neighbour raised suspicion on their reckless and flamboyant lifestyle without any known reasonable source of income.

Further investigation confirmed Oginni claims that he was truly a member of a popular soccer team, however, an official said he has not been attending training for a long while.

And now the club has reacted to the news through its media officer, Tosin Omojola, who denied knowledge of the arrest of any 3SC player while also confirming that the club has no feeder team.

“Our attention has been drawn to a report linking one Ogini Oluwaseyi Dayo, reported to have been arrested by the EFFC, to the Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan, " Omojola said.

“We would like to inform the public that 3SC currently do not have a player named Ogini Oluwaseyi Dayo and that the team does not even have a feeder team as at this moment, following the disbandment of the feeder team over a year ago.

“Although the said Ogini was formerly of the disbanded feeder team, he had left the club five years ago, even before the eventual dissolution of the feeder team.

“What we have presently is an Academy and the coaches of the young lads confirmed that the said Ogini Oluwaseyi Dayo has not been training with them.

“The only player named Ogini, who recently played for 3SC and has since been loaned to Crown FC, where he is presently plying his trade is Ogini Olatunbosun.”
