Senegal knocked out Nigeria's national U-20 team from the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland.
The Flying Eagles were beaten 2-1 in a West African derby game which lived up to its billing. The Lions of Teranga held off a dangerous Nigerian side at the Lodz Stadium to secure a spot in the quarter-finals.
Amador Sagna opened the scoring with a low drive in the 36th minute for Senegal before Ibrahima Niane doubled in first half stoppage time.
The Nigerians, however, responded swiftly in the second half through a deflected Success Makanjoula free-kick five minutes after the restart.
Paul Aigbogun's men pressed for an equaliser in the closing minutes of the game but their opponents willed their way to victory.
