The Nigerian Professional Football League Super six kicked off on Tuesday as match-day one games were played at the Soccer temple, Agege, in Lagos.

The playoffs which would determine the Champion of the 2019 season and the two other teams that would join them in representing the country on the continental level had three matches played on Tuesday.

In the opening fixture of the round, Enyimba clinched a slim victory against table toppers from Group A, Enugu Rangers, in the Oriental derby.

Joseph Osadiaye's strike in the 50th minute gave the People's Elephants all three points against their archrivals.

In the game that followed almost immediately after the Oriental derby, Kano Pillars and Akwa United played out a 2-2 draw, with all four goals coming in an entertaining first 45 minutes.

A David Ebuka goal just after 3 minutes gave the Northerners the lead but three more goals between the 31st and 37th meant the first half, and ultimately the rest of the game finished in a draw.

Ndifreke Effiong headed in the equalizer for Akwa United just after the half-hour mark before Nyima Nwagua restored Pillars advantage two minutes later after a melee in the box but Godspower Aniefiok leveled things up with another header as Akwa showed resilience against the 2014 champions.

Both teams pushed for a winner but their defenders managed to keep it tight at the back in the second half.

Last season's champions, Lobi Stars, continued their good run of form with a win against FC Ifeanyi Ubah in the final game of the round which was played under floodlights.

A brace for Samad Kadiri(2', 60') and a third strike by Sikiru Alimi(63) Tega Ebetomame's goal in the 40th minute was only a consolation goal for Aba-based Ifeanyi Ubah.

The teams will now take Wednesday as their off day to recuperate ahead of match-day two which takes place at the same venue on Thursday.
