Portugal could be the inaugural winners of the UEFA Nations League, as they have proceeded to the final.
Cristiano Dos Santos Aveiro Ronaldo, or Cr7 for short, has guided Portugal to their first ever UEFA Nations League final, as they dispatched Switzerland in a thrilling 3-1 victory.
They are now scheduled to face whoever wins in the second semi-final clash between England versus Netherlands on the 9th of June.
The 34-year-old opened the scoring for Portugal in the 25th minute with a stunning free kick. The keeper was rooted to a spot as Cristiano blasted the ball to the bottom right-hand corner from over 35 yards out.
Ricardo Rodriguez converted a penalty, early into the second half to give Switzerland an equalizer and a lifeline.
A well worked goal came from Bernando Silva in the 88th minute as he squared the ball into the box for an incoming Cristiano to latch onto. The ball found the back of the net and it resulted in a 2-1. Portugal was back in the lead.
Speaking of greatest, Cristiano Ronaldo is never tired of proving himself. At the stroke of 90 minutes, he drove through the left flank, beat his marker at the edge of the box then curled in a beautiful goal to mark his 53rd hat-trick for club and country, 7th for Portugal and his 88th overall goal for Portugal.
UEFA Nations League is new competition that was introduced in 2019 for European countries, and Portugal will be the first country in history to reach the finals of the competition. They could go ahead to become the inaugural winners of the tournament.
