Aussie Tennis star, Asleigh Barty, who was tagged favourite after going into the final, clinically dispatched her teenage opponent, Markéta Vondroušová, to claim her maiden Grandslam title.

Barty won 6-1, 6-3 in a final that lasted just 71 minutes. This was the youngest final in the WTA in the past 11 years.

The unranked Ashleigh Barty made her singles comeback at a 50k tournament in Eastbourne three years ago, after going on sabbatical to play Cricket.

She has defeated the likes of Madison Keys, Amanda Anisimova and Andrea Petkovic en-route to the final, losing all two sets throughout the competition.

Margaret Court was the last Australian to win the French Open (1973). A record that stood for 46 years. Barty becomes the newest Australian to claim the Roland Garros.

Barty's opponent, Vondroušová, was unseeded heading into the 2019 French Open. She has surged into the spotlight over the past month after defeating number 3 seed, Simona Halep, in the Italian Open before eventually losing to Konta in the quarterfinal. She had her revenge against the Brit when she defeated her in the semi final in Paris. She hadn't lost a set till the final.

All that is left of the Roland Garros is the Men's final between King of Clay Rafael Nadal and another Aussie, Dominic Thiem.
