Nigeria's Super Eagles and the Warriors of Zimbabwe played out a goalless draw in an international friendly played at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, on Saturday.

The two countries, who are finalizing preparations for the 2019 African Cup of Nations, used the game to boost players’ fitness and master their game plans ahead of the tournament which kicks off in less than two weeks.

Although Nigeria dominated proceedings and created a few goalscoring chances, they were unable to break the deadlock as the visitors showed their defensive strength.

Samuel Chukwueze had the host's best chance to score in the first half when his curling effort was saved by Edmore Sibanda in the Zimbabwe goal.

Both Samuel Kalu and Victor Osimhen who came in in the second half had half chances too but they were snuffed out by the Warriors defense.

Although the Zimbabweans were on the back foot for much of the game they looked dangerous and had one clear chance on the counter midway into the first half that Nyasha Mushekwi had to blast his shot over the bar.

Gernot Rohr used the game to test some of his players' fitness level as he introduced William Troost-Ekong, Ahmed Musa and Chidozie Awaziem into the game to replace Kenneth Omeruo, Samuel Kalu and Ola Aina at the start of the second half.

Henry Onyekuru on 74 minutes and John Ogu on 86 minutes came in for both Samuel Chukwueze and returning captain John Mikel Obi who was voted man of the match.

The final 23-man squad list for the tournament is expected to be out before the team makes the trip to Egypt on Sunday.

On arrival in Egypt, Nigeria will play a final friendly with Senegal on June 16 at the Ismailia Stadium before commencing their AFCON campaign against Burundi, Guinea, and Madagascar in Group B.
