There was pandemonium at the Soccer Temple in Agege on Monday after the referee, Adebimpe Quadri, was attacked by fans who were disgruntled by his handling of the game.

The fans, who were livid at the center referee's decision to award a 90th-minute penalty that was converted by Rangers’ Godwin Aguda for the equalizing goal, stomped the pitch after the game had been brought to a close.

This was, however, after Kano Pillars captain and NPFL legend, Rabiu Alli, had confronted the match referee in an aggressive manner.

Although the Super Eagles team B star was held back by his teammates, it was his reaction that spurred the alleged Sai Masu Gida fans to troop in and unsettle the atmosphere.

The pitch-side dashboards were torn into shreds and hurled at the officials and those at the VIP and broadcast section of the stands.

Adebimpe Quadri and his assisting officials were ushered into the dressing room by security even as the fans tried to destroy the barricade to gain entrance into the referees’ changing room.

The fans were eventually overpowered by the security personnel at the venue after some fans were injured.
