Enyimba International football club of Aba has been crowned champions of the 2019 Nigerian Professional Football League season after winning the Super Six at the Agege Stadium, Lagos.

The People's Elephant defeated Akwa United 3-0 in their final game of the playoffs to confirm their status as champions of the abridged league season.

A strike by Reuben Bala two minutes before half time and two well-taken goals in the second half by Stanley Dimgba and Abdulrahman Bashir gave the Aba-based side all the three points.

Usman Abdallah's team, who qualified as the second-best team from the abridged league Group A, amassed twelve points from five games having won four games.

Enyimba's win in front of their club chairman, Felix Ayansi, and cheering fans is the club's eight in the Nigerian top flight, making them the team with the most titles in the competition’s history.

Kano Pillars, the only side to defeat Enyimba all through the playoffs, finished in second place with 11 points and would now join the champions as Nigeria's representatives at the CAF Champions League.

The CAF Confederations cup slot was picked up by Enugu Rangers who finished third with 8 points after getting maximum points in their final game against Ifeanyi Ubah who failed to pick a single point from five games.

Akwa United finished fourth with 6 points, two more than last season's default champions, Lobi Stars, who ended in fifth.
