The assemblage of African football stars is ongoing in Egypt, and it started off amidst so much fireworks and a colourful display of Egyptian culture in a filled stadium in Cairo.

The 75,000 capacity stadium was treated to a fill of pyramid formations and outlooks. It was an excellent display.

The opening match was filled with flashes of good football, just what should be expected at the AFCON. The host and Zimbabwe slugged it out in a high intensity game with Mahmoud Trezeguet breaking the deadlock in the 41st minute, with a sublime finish.

The fans were so much in awe of the sleek movement of the Mo Salah, he came with deft touches and smart movement to give the Zimbabweans a hard run in the game. Although he had only one shot on target which did not bother the goalkeeper.

But the opposition team did put up a good game into the midfield, as it was a hard battle within the centre of the pitch. The presence of Billiards and Musonda was felt.

It was a hard fought game for the Egyptians.
