Odion Ighalo has been confirmed as one of the starters for Nigeria's Super Eagles when they take on the National Elephants of Guinea on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old came off the bench to score Nigeria's only goal in the opening game against Burundi as the Super Eagles recorded their first win.

Paul Onuachu who started in place of the Shanghai Shenhua striker in that game failed to produce an inspiring performance and will now lose his place on the team to Ighalo who has recovered fully from a muscle injury.

“Definitely, Ighalo is very fit and he will start the game against Guinea,” Rohr said while speaking to the media at the Alexandria Stadium.

A win (or maybe a draw) will guarantee the three-time African champions a place in the next round and Gernot Rohr is hoping his side can get the job done against the 1976 AFCON runners-up.

“It is a very important match because if we win this game, we are already through, so it will be a decisive game for us and for them,” he continued.

“Even if they (Guinea) lose, they still have a chance to be ranked among the best third-placed teams.

“My problem at the moment is to recover the injured players – we have two full back [Jamilu] Collins and [Abdullahi] Shehu – because that is my tactical problem at the moment.

“And the other good news is that [Samuel] Kalu is 100% fit and could play a part in the game.”

This is the first meeting between both sides in the history of the biennial football showpiece.
