Wayne Rooney scored 70-yard screamer for DC United in their MLS game against Orlando City.

The goal that proved to be the difference between the two sides as DC United secured the 1-0 victory has been watched over 8 million times on the MLS Twitter page.

With the game just 10 minutes old, Orlando had a corner kick which was half cleared by the DC United defense but a misunderstanding between two Orlando players allowed the ball drop to Rooney.

Orlando City goalkeeper, Brian Rowe well off his line and proceeded to pile drive the ball beyond his flailing grasp.

"I spotted the 'keeper maybe a couple minutes before we scored and I'd seen that he was quite high," Rooney said when he was asked about the goal after the game.

“I knew if the ball fell to me near the halfway line, then the opportunity would be there for me to shoot it.

"He was probably a bit further out than normally because they were in possession of the ball, and it was through them losing it that it fell straight into my path. I knew immediately I was going to shoot it and, thankfully, I got it right."

The strike is the most recent by the forward who has provided such special moments at every club he has played for.

The 33-year-old scored twice from half-way against West Ham in the Premier League for both Manchester United(2014) and Everton(2017).

Rooney has scored nine times in 18 games for DC United who sit third in the Eastern Conference table.
