Brazil Vs Argentina Clash - Copa America Semi-Final Preview

Jayfred Ugo

Football lovers, brace yourselves for July 2. Brazil, the host nation of the Copa America, will take to the pitch to face Argentina in the semi-final of the 2019 Copa America.

So far so good, Brazil has been unbeaten in the competition, tearing apart all their opponents on their way to the semi-finals. However, their quarter-final clash against Paraguay did not go as planned, though they later emerged victorious on penalty shootouts after a goalless full-time score.

This year's Copa America, Brazil, will be without their golden boy, Neymar, who missed the competition because of his lingering ankle injury.

Argentina, on the other hand, lost their first game to Colombia 2-0, even with their key man and five time Balon d'Or winner, Lionel Messi. However, they have gone on to find a new streak of form. In the quarter-final clash between them and Venezuela, many were expecting a tricky tie for Argentina, owing to the fact that Venezuela defeated Argentina 3-1 in their last encounter but their hope was dashed as Argentina defeated Venezuela in a comfortable 2-0 victory.

Messi played all 90 minutes but was extremely quiet and that will not come as a surprise to some South American fans because Messi has only scored 1 goal in the competition so far after 5 matches. Inter Milan’s new boy, Lautaro Martinez, opened scoring for Argentina as early as the 10th minute of the game, redirecting a shot off Manchester City striker, Sergio Aguero, from a corner kick which was swung in by Messi.

The second goal came in the second half, by second half substitute, Lo Celso, who came on for Acuna and scored in the 74th minute to bury all hopes of Venezuela.

Brazil has not missed Neymar much, all thanks to Coutinho as well as Gabriel Jesus. The encounter promises to be exciting, as Sergio Aguero faces off with fellow striker and teammate, Gabriel Jesus. Also, what started as a bad campaign for Argentina could end on a high if they defeat Brazil in Belo Horizonte Stadium.
