AFCON Semi-Final: Nigeria Vs Algeria -What to expect

This is what you should expect when the Super Eagles face the Desert Foxes.

After an interesting 2-1 victory for Super Eagles against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana on Wednesday, the eagles crossed their legs, settled in the semi-finals and waited patiently for the winner between the Desert Foxes of Algeria and the Elephants of Ivory Coast.

Unfortunately, the Elephants crashed out last night after a battle of footwork that lasted 120 minutes. They finally lost 3-4 in penalties to the Desert Foxes. Some would have loved to see Ivory Coast play Nigeria but the better side won and now the Super Eagles of Nigeria will face the Desert Foxes of Algeria on Sunday, July 14.

Here are four things you should expect from the match.

▪ After an exciting performance from 20-year-old winger, Samuel Chukwueze, a performance that earned him the man of the match award against South Africa, we expect to see more of the young, skillful football star. Chukwueze plays his club football for Villarreal CF in La liga.

▪ As much as this does not sound good to us, we expect to see a comeback from the experienced Algerian forward, Baghdad Bounedjah. The 27-year-old striker missed a penalty that could secure Algeria a win in regular time and he was caught several times scolding and tormenting himself all through the game. Fortunately, they won and we expect to see a man who has learnt his lessons the hard way.

▪ Expect the Algerian goalie to concede more goals. Rais M'Bolhi is the 33-year-old goal keeper of the Algerian team who kept a hundred percent clean sheet until yesterday night when he allowed Ivory Coast's Jonathan Kodjia’s beating spoil his record. Rais will perhaps be beaten again on Sunday.

▪ Lastly, expect a win from the Super Eagles. The Algerian team played a 120 minute game on Thursday and are expected to play against Nigeria that played 90 minutes a day before on Sunday. Obviously, the players will be more fatigued which gives us a chance to hit them hard. It won't be easy but we can get a win and secure the final spot.

GO EAGLES!
