Daniele De Rossi Joins Boca Juniors After 18 Years At Roma

Former Roma and Italian midfielder, Daniele De Rossi, shocked the world when he arrived at Buenos Ave's Ezeiza airport on Thursday morning to complete a move to Boca Juniors.

Joyous Boca fans swarmed the airport to welcome him. The last time they came out en masse to welcome a player like this was when Carlos Tevez returned three years ago.

Rossi has a world cup medal for being part of the Italian squad that won the 2006 World Cup, and in 2009, the French sports magazine ‘L'Équipe’ named De Rossi the eighth-best midfielder in the world. He is Roma's second most capped player in history, with 613 appearances, scoring 43 goals in his 18 years at the Italian league.

The 36-year-old Rossi is expected to undergo medicals later on Thursday and commence first training with the full squad on Friday. At 36, he was expected to draw the curtains on his not-so illustrious career, like compatriot, Franchisco Totti, but Rossi said:

"I still want to play football, it would be unjust to me if I decide to stop playing now.

He further said: "I don't want to stop playing football with the regret of not being able to wear the shirt of Boca."

Many would wonder, what link does Rossi have with Boca Juniors? If you consider the fact that the Boca's sporting director, Nicolas Burdisso, was a former teammate of Rossi at Roma, playing for the club as a center-back from 2009-2014. That relationship could have most likely stimulated the transfer move.

Rossi now joins Eduardo Salvio, who joined from Benfica last week.
