Former Barcelona goalie, Jasper Cillessen, has revealed in an interview with a Spanish media outlet that Barcelona superstar, Lionel Messi, made him feel “inadequate” about his abilities as a goalkeeper.

He heaped praises on the Argentine forward, saying as much as he improved training with Messi, he was always in awe of the abilities of the 32-year-old captain of Barcelona.

Lionel Messi is regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, not only for his five Balon d'Or awards but for his amazing pattern of football and various football records he has set and broken.

Cillessen, who joined Barcelona from Ajax, had recently called it quits with the Blaugrana side at the beginning of July, switching camp to fellow La Liga rival, Valencia, after having a mere handful of appearances in Barcelona.

The 30-year-old played second fiddle to German goalkeeper, Andre Ter Stegen, at Camp Nou. Cillessen also said he missed “nothing” about his former employers, Barcelona, over the playing time he had and looks forward to a new campaign in his career with Valencia.

The Dutchman, Cillessen, would be facing Lionel Messi and Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup in January next year. The competition was originally to be played before the beginning of a New La Liga session but Spanish federation early this year implemented a new format and increased the attendance from the normal format where the winner of the Copa Del Rey plays the Winner of La Liga to a 4-team competition involving second and third place in La Liga.
