Real Madrid's official website indicates that new signing, Eden Hazard, would wear the famous jersey number 7 vacated by Cristiano Ronaldo who left the Spanish giants for Italian club.
Ronaldo joined Juventus last summer after a stellar career at the Spanish capital where he was Real Madrid's all-time leading scorer in his nine seasons at the club, having amassed a record of 451 goals in 438 appearances.
28-year-old Belgian international, Hazard, joined Real Madrid from Chelsea in June for a mouthwatering fee which could exceed £120 million. After was Jersey 23 during preseason, he then went on to take the number 7 shirt from Dominican Republic, Mariano Diaz, who was brought back to the Bernabeu for £33m last summer after spending one year since he was sold to French club, Lyon, for £7.2m. He has seriously failed to fill the big shoes of the Portuguese legend, Cristiano Dos Santos Aviero Ronaldo.
Ronaldo joined Madrid from Manchester United. He initially wore jersey number 9 because the then club-captain, Raul Gonzalez, held the number 7 jersey.
Ronaldo later inherited the jersey number 7, when Raul who graduated from Real's academy spent 18 years at the club and scored 323 goals in 741 appearances, left for the German league to play for Schalke 04.
