Two Men Arrested After Another Scare Outside Ozil’s House

Austin Papi

Two men were recently arrested outside the house of German footballer and Arsenal’s playmaker, Mesut Ozil, earlier this week.

The North London club, Arsenal, announced on Friday that both Ozil and Sead Kolasinac would not be part of Unai Emery’s squad for Sunday’s Premier League opener at Newcastle due to new security incidents which were being investigated by the police.

These incidents are coming barely two weeks after Ozil and Kolasinac were victims of an attempted armed robbery outside Ozil's house. A gang of motorcyclists chased down both players, who fled in Ozil's car to the nearest Turkish restaurant for safety.

Neither player was harmed in the incident and they both travelled to Spain later on to feature in last Sunday’s friendly against Barcelona with a view to returning fully with the squad for the 2019-20 season.

However, Arsenal later revealed that the duo would not be a part of the travelling squad for Sunday’s Newcastle game, for security reasons. The statement released on Friday evening read:

"Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac will not be part of the squad for our opening match against Newcastle United following further security incidents which are being investigated by the police."

Arsenal won Newcastle by a slim 1-0 margin, courtesy Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s 58th minute strike. New signing, Nicholas Pepe, who joined the Meirate side, came in as a substitute but did little or nothing to change the scoreline. The absence of both players (Ozil and Kolasinac) was felt by Arsenal fans.
