Former Super Falcons’ attacking midfielder, Ifeanyichukwu Chiejine, has been reported dead.

According to a reliable source, the skillful attacking midfielder gave up the ghost on Wednesday, August 21, in Lagos after a brief illness.

Members of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are still shocked and saddened at the news of her death.

Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, the General Secretary of NFF, was devastated when news of her death reached him. According to Dr. Mohammed, the news came as a shock and they were not aware of the fact that she was sick. He said she was one of the youngest and most naturally gifted players on the celebrated Super Falcons team, adding that her death at such age was a big blow to deal with.

Ifeanyichukwu Chiejine was 36 years old and she captained the first batch of the Super Falcons that were present at the inaugural edition of the FIFA U19 Women’s World Cup in Canada in 2002. In six years, the competition would be renamed FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup.

She also played with the Super Falcons at three FIFA World Cup finals (USA 1999, USA 2003 and China 2007).
