Welsh winger, Gareth Bale, and Real Madrid gaffer, Zinedine Zidane, have had endless feuds. Bale has not been the favourite on the list of the French manager.

You will recall that Zidane made a controversial statement late July that it would be a "good thing for everyone" if Bale left.

Bale was bent on moving to the Chinese league, but prior to a long term injury to Asensio, Real Madrid made a last minute turnaround to block the deal before retaining the services of the former Tottenham winger.

Zidane has challenged Gareth Bale to prove this season that he is a "great player."

"What has changed is that the player is going to stay. The important thing is the player wants to stay," he added.

"It's true that a lot was said about him, by me as well, but he is going to stay. He is a great player, he has shown that before and he has to show it again. He has to be the player we know that he is."

In the absence of Real Madrid’s record signing, Eden Hazard, who sustained a thigh injury in training, the 30-year-old Gareth Bale went on to make a surprise start in Real Madrid's opening La Liga fixture against Celta Vigo last Saturday and Real Madrid led the match in a comfortable 3-1 win.

Zidane declared he was impressed with Bale's overall performance in the 3-1 defeat of Celta Vigo. He added that the Welshman was defensively present on the pitch and played convincingly well.
