Former Italy international, Andrea Pirlo believes Mario Balotelli can still earn a recall to Roberto Mancini’s Italy team in the future after watching him score for Brescia.

The 29-year-old has been left out of Mancini's selection this year, although he did play three times for his country in 2018.

Balotelli returned to the town where he spent the majority of his childhood this summer after his contract at Marseille expired and notched his first goal for the club in 3-2 friendly win over Frosinone.

He is presently unavailable for selection as he is serving a four-game ban which he carried over from Ligue 1 before he can take to the field in a competitive game.

After watching his former teammate get off the mark, Pirlo is optimistic the striker would get another chance with the national team if he keeps doing well.

“If Balotelli has chosen to play for Brescia, it means that he wants to start again and do well,” Pirlo said while speaking to Ansa in the stands after the game.

“And, if he starts again, everything else will follow for him as a result, even the national team. But getting back into the Italy team is all down to him. If you don’t show that you deserve it on the field, you can’t think about that.”

Pirlo was also quizzed on who he thinks is the favorite to clinch the Serie A title this season: “Juventus are the favorites, but Inter are getting closer," he added.
