Fekir Hits Out At Liverpool Over Failed Transfer Move

Austin Papi

Real Betis midfielder and French international, Nabil Fekir, has slammed UEFA Champions League defending champions for the failed £53 million ($66m) transfer move to Liverpool in the summer of 2018.

Fekir claims Liverpool purported lies after leaving him high and dry following an alleged medical test.

The 26-year-old was said to have travelled to England and was even pictured in the colours of his supposed new club, Liverpool, but there was a late tangle, as Liverpool opted out of the deal.

According to reports, Liverpool’s medical team was concerned about the fact that Fekir was still nursing his way back from a serious knee injury. It was a risk the Merseyside club didn't want a part of.

"Lots of lies were told and they affected me, especially those told about my family. It hurt them and me ... What was said is not the truth. My knee is good - I had a quick medical check at Clairefontaine (France's national training base) - my knee wasn't even mentioned.

“If my knee had been in such a bad state, would Aulas (Lyon chairman Jean-Michel) have made [a huge offer to keep me]? But the worst thing is the idea that people could suggest that it's because of my family that the transfer didn't happen. It's a lie. But you have to live with it."

“You want the truth? Even I don't know - I promise you!

"I did my medical and then [Liverpool] decided not to sign me. At some point, they wanted to have me believe it was because of my knee - but an excuse needed to be found."

Fekir has secured a £22m ($27m) move to Spain to join Real Betis in this year's summer transfer window, but he still probes Liverpool for the motives behind the failure of the transfer. The Frenchman, as stated above, is still unsure of the real reason why a switch did not happen.
