Portuguese football manager, Jose Mourinho has rated his time in Spain with Real Madrid as his best experience as a coach.

Despite enjoying success at Porto, Chelsea and Inter, the Portuguese gaffer has stated that he considers the period he managed the Galacticos as his best.

The 56-year-old was already an established name in the game when he joined Madrid in 2010 after winning several trophies with Porto, Chelsea and Inter.

But he cited the lessons he learned and memories forged during that spell as the reason he would pick that period over any other.

"Real Madrid was my best experience because of what I learned as a coach, as a man, because of the lessons I took in my career and in my life," Mourinho told Portuguese TV channel 11, per Marca.

"It is the best memory of my career, it was fantastic."

While at Madrid, a fierce rivalry with then Barcelona manager, Pep Guardiola formed some of the most memorable moments of Mourinho's Madrid tenure with the El Clasico taking a whole new twist.

Barcelona had enjoyed a long period of dominance in the years before Mourinho arrived but the controversial tactician broke that spell, winning a Copa del Rey, one League title and the Super Cup in his three years in Spain.

"What they asked me at Real Madrid went with my nature," Mourinho continued.

"They told me that we had the best team in the world on the other side, that they were crushing us and we had to reverse the situation.

"We had to prevent Barça from crushing us and that's why the Mestalla cup final is the most important.

"From there nothing was the same. We won the league, the Super Cup, but nothing was like the [Copa del Rey] final.

"Unfortunately, I didn't manage to win any of the three Champions League semi-finals [I took Madrid to]."

Mourinho who was sacked by Manchester United in December is currently out of work outside a series of television punditry roles.
