Real Madrid Hit 16-Year Low In Crushing PSG Defeat

Real Madrid had a slow start to the new season. It was a night to forget for the Galaticos as they continued their inconsistency, losing disgracefully on Wednesday night in a 3-0 defeat at Paris Saint-Germain.

The Spanish giants failed to register a single shot on target, breaking a record. This will be the first time Real Madrid will fail to test the opposing goalkeeper for the first time in a Champions League match since the 2003-04 season. It was also the first time they lost the opening match of a Champions League campaign since 2006.

After putting forth a formidable first XI, consisting of a trio of Eden Hazard, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema, they were still toothless in front of the goal post. A real chance came when Bale scored a beauty but it was chucked off because Bale intentionally guided his hands to the ball.

Former goalkeeper of Real Madrid, Keylor Navas, had a clean game, keeping his first clean-sheet. Another former Real Madrid player, Angel Di Maria, found the back of the net twice in the first half before Thomas Meunier completed the routing in stoppage time.

The defeat doubles as the heaviest Real Madrid has suffered under Zinedine Zidane in the Champions League.
