During a pre-match conference ahead of Manchester City's UEFA Champions League tie with Shakhtar Doneskt in Ukraine, Pep confirmed that his centre-back, John Stones, had been ruled out for five weeks with a muscle injury.

When asked how long Stones would be out injured, Guardiola replied: "A month, four or five weeks."

Guardiola also added that right full-back, Kyle Walker, or defensive midfielder, Fernandinho, who was an unused substitute in their previous match against Norwich City could be direct candidates to fill the shoes of Stones in the heart of City's defence.

"[It is a] big challenge. For me as a manager, it's an incredible challenge: just one central defender in Nico," he stated.

"But I believe a lot. People don't know the spirit and resolve to solve this problem. The players are going to come back with Fernandinho, Garcia, Harwood-Bellis. It's happened, but what we are not going to do is complain. If they are not able, they are not able. We have to have 11 players on the pitch, and I like it, finding a solution."

The City-zens manager, whose side fell to a 3-2 defeat to Norwich City last Saturday, claims he could also turn to teenage duo, Eric Garcia and Taylor Harwood-Bellis, to address the growing injury crisis at the back.

Frenchman, Aymeric Laporté, and England International, John Stones, will miss the next couple of games for Manchester City, compounding the woes of Pep Guardiola.
