Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has said that he is certain that current assistant coach, Mikel Arteta, will succeed him in the future at Eithad as coach of the side.

Arteta was a former midfielder at Arsenal, where he had captained the Emirate side at some point in his career. Though his playing career ended in 2016 and he was immediately named as an integral part of Pep Guardiola's staff at the Etihad, Arteta has gone on to develop a reputation as one of the top young coaches in the world.

The 37-year-old Spaniard almost became Arsenal's new manager in the summer of 2018, only for the North London club to make a late U-turn and appoint former Sevilla manager, Unai Emery, to take over from Arsene Wenger.

Guardiola had this to say about Arteta: "I'm pretty sure [he'll succeed me]. He will have success.

"Sooner or later it's going to happen. He's a young, young manager. He has experience already, handling big players and big teams.

"He's got an incredible work ethic. He has a special talent to analyse what happens and to find solutions."
