Bayern Munich Legend, Schweinsteiger, Announces Retirement

Ex-German international, Bastian Schweinsteiger, has announced his retirement from professional football.

The former Bayern Munich midfielder called it quits with football at the age of 35 after representing Bayern Munich and Manchester United.

The 2014 World Cup winner has spent the last three years of his stellar career playing in the MLS after which came a brief spell with the Red Devils at Old Trafford before he eventually moved to Chicago in the United States of America.

Schweinsteiger was considered to be the perfect signing when Manchester United secured his signature. Many thought he would fill the cold boots of former legend, Paul Scholes, and groom the next generation of United midfielders, but his spell in England did not pan out well.

Schweinsteiger took to his social media handles to announce his retirement.

“Dear fans, the time has now come, and I will be finishing my active career at the end of this season. I would like to thank both you, my teams FC Bayern, Manchester United, Chicago Fire and the German national team. You made this unbelievable time possible for me!" he stated.

“Saying goodbye as an active player makes me feel a little nostalgic, but I am also looking forward to the exciting challenges that await me soon. I will remain faithful to football. Many, many thanks for the time we spent together, I will always have a place for you in my heart!”
