Former Manchester United midfielder, Ander Herrera, who left the Red Devils over the summer, has stated that football is not the most important thing at Old Trafford.

The 30-year-old Spanish midfielder had failed to extend his stay at Manchester United following the expiration of his contract. He then opted to sign for French champions, Paris Saint-Germain, as a free agent.

Herrera had spent five years in England playing consistently under the likes of Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but as the Red Devils endured a torrid downward trend in recent times, the players began leaving, each looking for greener pastures.

Manchester United faced many accusations regarding their alleged prioritizing of commercial matters, rather than sporting ones.

Herrera, who happens to share that same opinion, said during an interview in France: “I was very happy at that incredible club. I am very grateful to the supporters.

“Frankly, I was immensely happy in Manchester, but at the club, there were times when I felt that football was not considered the most important thing.”

When asked further if business was the main focus for United, Herrera replied: “That does not come out of my mouth. I don’t know, but football was not the most important thing in Manchester."
