Bayern Munich Sacks Niko Kovac After Frankfurt Humiliation

Austin Papi

Niko Kovac, who joined Bayern Munich in June 2018 from Eintracht Frankfurt, has now been sacked from his position as manager of Bayern Munich, barely months after leading the Bavarians to the Bundesliga title last season.

The 48-year-old Croat took over at the club from Jupp Heynckes in the summer of 2018 and went on to secure the domestic league title from Borrusia Dortmund.

He also fetched the club the DFB Pokal, German cup in his first season, but Bayern had two losses this season, three draws and four wins in their last 10 matches. They languish in the fourth position on the Bundesliga table.

While Bayern Munich search for their new coach who will replace Kovac, the assistant manager, Hansi Flick, will take charge of the upcoming games with Olympiacos and Borussia Dortmund. The international break which follows will give the club time to consider a long-term appointment.

A list of high-profile names has been circulating the internet. Jose Mourinho, Mauricio Pochettino and Massimiliano Allegri have all been linked to the list, with the likes of Erik ten Hag, Ralf Rangnick and Mark van Bommel also likely to enter into the conversation for a vacant managerial position in Munich.
