I Knew It Would Be Hard At Barca - Antoine Griezmann

Austin Papi

New Barcelona reinforcement, Antoine Griezmann, has admitted that he always knew the difficulty of adapting to the style of play in Barcelona. He also claimed he knew it would be hard for him to make an immediate impact at Barcelona.

The France international forward sealed a big-money move said to be in the region or £120m to Camp Nou from Atletico Madrid over the summer. The deal has been clouded with controversies and uncertainty over the exact fee paid for the Frenchman's services.

The deal to Barcelona has been on the cards for some time, with the former Atletico forward having passed up the opportunity to switch from the Spanish capital for that in Catalunya last season and the season before but Barca eventually got their man. However, it seems like they will be waiting for way longer than anticipated for him to find a spark.

When quizzed about his tactical switch in the French National team and why he was used as a forward for France in their 2-1 Euro 2020 qualification win over Moldova, Griezmann told ‘RMC Sports’:

“It is certain that playing in the centre is better for me. I have my bearings. I’ve been managing this position for years and years.

“I have a new club. I have to adapt. I am still learning. I knew on arrival that it was going to be hard, I knew it very well.”

Barcelona would find it hard benching their top striker, Luis Suarez, so as to play Griezmann down the middle. So the 28-year-old will have to settle for the wing positions until a tactical solution is found to bring out the best in him.
