Under-23 Coach To Take Charge Of Liverpool’s Carabao Cup Match

Liverpool under-23 coach, Neil Critchley, will be given charge of Liverpool's squad, which will be dominated by academy players as they lineup against Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup quarter-final next month.

Liverpool’s manager, Jurgen Klopp, will be in Qatar with the senior players for the Club World Cup.

The Merseyside club will play two games on two different continents in the space of 24 hours, as they will have a knockout clash at Villa Park taking place on Tuesday, December 18, and their Club World Cup semi-final scheduled for the next day in the middle east, Saudi Arabia.

The German manager, Klopp, will head out with the senior side on Sunday, December 15, to prepare for the FIFA tournament, which runs till the following weekend, leaving Critchley and the club’s youth players to fulfil their midweek fixture against Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup.

The 18-year-old academy midfielder, Curtis Jones, will most likely captain the Reds, while other teenagers like Rhian Brewster, Harvey Elliott, Ki-Jana Williams and Sepp van den Berg look set to feature in the Carabao cup.

The youngsters were also a part of Liverpool’s victories over Arsenal and MK Dons in the earlier rounds of the Carabao Cup but were fixed alongside a handful of senior players, including James Milner and Divock Origi.

All senior stars are likely to be part of the Club World Cup squad, meaning the Carabao Cup team is set to consist entirely of academy players.
